Reading College

I was asked to go into Reading College today to talk to the students on the Fda Creative Arts and Design Practice course about my illustration and bookbinding, hopefully they found it useful! It was strange being back there as so little seems to have changed after 3 years...

Festival of Crafts 2012

I had a great time at the Farnham Maltings, perusing a vast range of different crafts and exhibitors, and I left my mark at the Big Draw for which I drew some form of cutting kitchen utensil thing.

Books, Books and more Books

These are the hand bound leather cover coptic sketchbooks I have been making. They all contain 140gsm cartridge paper and 100gsm laid endpages, and are bound with lightly waxed linen thread.

Also, I had a great day at Bookface; this was my stall with both exhibits and things for sale. If you are interested in anything, let me know...

Gagosian

Whilst in London yesterday, I made my way to the Gagosian Gallery on Britannia Street. The current exhibition is the last paintings of Cy Twombly. As incredible as they are, here are some pictures of the building.

Whiteknights Trail 2012

It is Whiteknights Trail time again. This also means it has been a year (ish) since I started this here Blog-a-tron. For the next year, I will try to keep it updated in a regular fashion, with both ongoing and completed projects. Back on topic... the trail was good again, both to catch up with local artists and tutors, and to see how their work has progressed and developed over the course of a year. This is an air ventilation system thing which caught my eye, and a goose who chased me for a while.

Type

I have been working on the typography for my website as of late, and my finished lettering can be seen on this blog's header. The old type can be seen below- small changes but overall the letterforms are pretty similar.

Another Jay

The Jays hath returned, this time in a different style. I am starting to think I should do more with this interest in birds, perhaps a book or series of cards.

Yorkshire

I have recently returned to Cambridge, having visited Yorkshire Air Museum (amongst other places). Although much smaller than Duxford, it still has a great colection of modern aircraft. Here are a few of things I was interested in.

Jay

This is a cropped section from a card design, featuring one of the Jays I encountered in Reading.

Exhibition

Tonight is opening night for our exhibition at The Six Bells, Cambridge. Following the theme of British Wildlife, I have produced 3 pieces of work depicting magpies and a woodpecker. They are mixed fabric collage and freehand machine embroidery. This is a method of working I enjoy and haven't used for a while. This how my work looked as displayed, and a close up of one of the Magpies.

Exhibition of British Wildlife

I will soon be exhibiting some artwork with some friends at the Six Bells pub in Cambridge. This is my poster for the event...

Pen box

This is a pen box with slipcover which I have constructed entirely from scratch as part of a present. It is made from mixed paper, greyboard and waxed cord. I hope to work out how to construct other boxes so that I can make more interesting hardbound books.

Nice weather

Today was a really nice bright day in Cambridge so I went out and about with my camera. This is a photo of a wall close to where I live- I found the textures of the bricks and the strong shadows really interesting.
